US Navy Memorial / Market Square

This project encompasses the design of a new urban plaza and park, Market Square, and the U.S. Navy Memorial at its center. The Memorial consists of a great circular stone map of the world surrounded by nearly an acre of symbolic ocean in the form of cascading fountains. A series of bas-reliefs depicting historical Navy events defines the principal entrance on Pennsylvania Avenue. The plaza regularly serves as a seating area for concerts given by the U.S. Navy Band who perform on the cascading steps to the north.
