MTA-Office of the Inspector General
Design of the new headquarters for the MTA Office of the Inspector General. This 30,000 S.F. gut renovation includes executive conference rooms, private offices, training rooms and open space planning. The scheme seeks to create an office environment of spatial hierarchy and visual drama within a floor plate with limited access to perimeter windows and a very restricted floor slab to ceiling slab height. Natural light is filtered through perimeter offices via clerestory windows into the internal open plan offices. Lowered ceiling planes corresponding to accented floor patterns highlight primary circulation systems that lead the visitor from the gallery-like reception area towards two full-height open office “atria” that anchor each wing of the L-shaped plan. The serene color palette is punctuated by distinctly colored volumes each of which houses a different public activity. In the main open office area three of these volumes create a pin wheel flow which animates the space while providing color coded orientation.
